The Gonzo Hour is "a marvellous and bizarre story of a professor getting angry about a box” (Funny Tonne) and “a commentary on group behaviour, nationalism, and the dangers of being human” (The Plus Ones).
It is an idiot in a raincoat (Debbie Zukerman) on stage for about half an hour, followed by her agitated boss (also Debbie Zukerman) being agitated for another half an hour.
Debbie Zukerman is a Sydney based comedian, clown and improviser. She is a member of clown company Choo Choo Troupe, and improv troupe Post-Its. She has performed at the Melbourne and Sydney Comedy Festivals and the Adelaide, Perth, and Sydney Fringes. She was once a quite serious actor, and co-founded the Melbourne indie feminist theatre company The Honeytrap. She now lives in a third floor apartment with a pet dinosaur, Gregory. Debbie studied performance with clown master Philippe Gaulier (Paris), Meisner at the Ward Studio (NYC), improvisation at ITS (Sydney) and clown at Brooklyn Movement Studio.
"A skilled and extensively-trained clown, Zukerman had us laughing from the start... This show is out-of-the-ordinary of word-centric, stand up, comedy fare and often doesn't make sense. But it’s a unique clown experience that gives a top lesson in idiocy. A show for our times." - Sarah Wallace (The Plus Ones)
"It isn't possible to not enjoy this show, largely because Debbie or the professor wouldn't let you. The final set piece is one of the most wonderful I've seen at the festival. This show is great fun." **** - William Erskine (Funny Tonne)
"It’s all a bit of a nonsense show but it’s performed so well and is genuinely funny. In fact, you may be laughing until you cry (although this may not entirely be of your own accord…)" ***1/2 - Jonathan Brennan (Funny Tonne)
