IRRASHIONAL

“…The haunting image that stuck with me most as a kid was Chucky from the movie Child’s Play. Good ‘ole Jude, told me to imagine fucked up chuck front flipping into the toilet, and then it flushing. Interesting choice, Judith, not my first choice when trying to vanquish a cursed doll, not even my second…”

From the image of Chucky coming up through the toilet pipes to eat you, genitals first, to the all too common, “I’m too short/fat/dumb/ugly to do that” mentality, this raucous show tackles the fear and insecurity in us all. Irrashional is a 45-minute one act comedy cabaret, about fear and all it’s paraphernalia. This show purges a young woman's relationship to fear, which includes a long history of disturbing and graphic nightmares and the fear of failure pushed along by a lack of self-esteem. Jo confesses her worst nightmares through stand-up which is interjected with songs and scenes of her childhood, those pesky young adult years and the likely future (if she continues this behaviour).

Irrashional reminds us to laugh at our fear, because it’s free and if we don’t, we’ll end up like Pauline Hanson or Fraser Anning. An engrossing flow of stand-up, cabaret, sit-com and dramatic styles of narrative storytelling, Irrashional has its audience in raucous laughter one moment then silent consideration in the next.

"The intelligence at which she approaches her work is astounding. Jo is a constant thinker and deeply analytical" - Josh Lyons, Co-Founder of Share House Theatre Company.

REVIEWS

"She revealed herself to have a raucous, rambunctious and loquacious gift for storytelling that envelopes an audience in gregarious celebration of young female experience and culture. Like many of Australia's great comedians and raconteurs, Jo anchors her narrative in the outrageous loves, losses and longings of her own flagrant life and poetic enactment that at one moment has her audience screaming in anguished recognition, and in the next, sighing in shared moments of reflection.  Jo is a young writer developing her own flair for standing up in a room full of strangers and by helping us laugh at all our monsters, making a room full of friends" - Scott Alderdice, Theatre Director,
